At a tour of the new Xerox call center in Webster earlier today, Xerox and RTS expressed their thanks to Governor Andrew Cuomo and our local representatives to the New York State Legislature for providing funding for commuter express service to the call center. RTS is reinstating service around the 11:00 p.m. window during the week to support the evening and overnight shifts at the call center and is adding four new trips per day on the weekend.
This new service is possible because of the leadership and efforts of Governor Cuomo and our representatives in the State Legislature. They all deserve thanks, but especially Governor Cuomo, Senator Joe Robach, the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Assemblyman David Gantt, the Chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle, and Senator Michael Nozzolio.
“Reinstating Regional Transit System bus service between downtown Rochester and Xerox’ Webster campus was welcome news for many of our call center employees,” said Michael Zimmer, President of Large Enterprise Operations at Xerox. “Employees can now be assured a safe and reliable way to get to work. For Xerox it means improved employee retention, recruiting, and morale, all critical links to serving our customers. We really appreciated the determination and dedication of the entire team from RTS, the City of Rochester, Monroe County and NY State officials. On behalf of Xerox and our employees, thank you.”
“I thank Governor Cuomo and our representatives to the State Legislature for recognizing the importance of public transit and helping us connect our customers to jobs,” said Bill Carpenter, CEO of RTS. “I also thank Mike Zimmer and Xerox for their commitment and partnership with RTS, and Maggie Brooks, our Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, for helping RTS be a better partner to the community. This successful outcome was achieved because of their collective efforts.”
“The impact of the bus reinstatement is profound,” said Heather L. Smith, Senior Vice President of Delivery Transformation and Global Capabilities for Xerox Business Services. “When we announced this to our employees, we were overcome by their positive and emotional response. Our employees are conscientious and do what it takes to get to work on time. In fact, one woman shared that taking the bus means she will no longer spend $50 a day to get to and from work.”
