Winter Riding Tips
Snowy, icy days are all too familiar in Rochester. Here’s how to enjoy the ride in winter weather:
Plan Ahead
Plan your trip a day ahead: the Trip Planner on the myRTS.com homepage and the Transit app make trip planning easy. You can also stay on top of updates by signing up for text message service alerts at myRTS.com.
Dress Warmly
Weather-related traffic can slow down service and may mean waiting outside for longer than usual. Don’t forget to bundle up in your winter gear.
Stand Back
When the roads are slick, buses may slide as they approach the curb. Stay on the curb until the bus comes to a complete stop.
Stay Safe
If your bus stop is blocked by snow, avoid standing in the street or on top of a snow bank. Wait for the bus at the closest cleared driveway or cross street: our Bus Operators are trained to pick you up there.
We ask that property owners keeps bus stops clear of snow, the same way they keep fire hydrants clear. If your stop isn’t clear, please contact your town or city for help.
Step Carefully
When entering and exiting the bus, be aware of slick surfaces. Please watch your step, use the handrails and go slow.
No matter what the weather, we do our best to provide safe, reliable and convenient public transportation. Thanks for enjoying the ride with us!
