The community and RTS customers are invited to visit the new RTS Transit Center before it officially opens on Nov. 28. Six open houses are scheduled between Nov. 13 and Nov. 20 at the Transit Center, which is located one block north of Main Street between St. Paul Street and North Clinton Avenue in Rochester.

The open houses will allow the public to explore the Transit Center, learn about its amenities, and understand upcoming route and schedule changes—all at their own pace.

Times and dates of the Open Houses are as follows (Visitors are asked to use the Clinton Avenue entrance):

  • Thursday, Nov. 13, 2-4 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 14, 9-11 a.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 15, noon-4 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 17, 4-6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

RTS has planned the open houses to be informative and fun for the whole family. There will be giveaways, activities for the kids, and a chance to sign up to win a month-long pass.

RTS also is offering a ‘Fare Holiday’ between Friday, Nov. 28 and Wednesday, Dec. 31. Customers who board transfer at the RTS Transit Center during that time will ride free of charge.

About the RTS Transit Center

Located in the heart of downtown Rochester at 60 St. Paul Street, the enclosed, one-story RTS Transit Center spans the block between North Clinton Avenue and St. Paul Street. The LEED-certifiable structure will provide modern amenities in a secure, climate-controlled environment that is fully ADA-accessible. Customers will transfer and wait for buses indoors—replacing the outdoor lineups that now occur along Main Street, St. Paul Street and North Clinton Avenue, and on Broad Street. The 87,000 square foot building will feature all the amenities of a modern transportation hub: electronic displays of bus departure times, ticket vending machines, public rest rooms, and an information center staffed to assist bus customers as well as visitors to Rochester. With 30 bus bays, it will accommodate as many as 100 buses per hour during peak times for service throughout Monroe County. Groundbreaking for the RTS Transit Center took place on Nov. 20, 2012. The $50 million building is being funded by Federal Transit Administration funds (80%), New York State Department of Transportation funds (10%), and RGRTA (10%).
