Rochester, NY: RTS was joined today by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, Commissioner Norman Jones from the Department of Environmental Services at the City of Rochester, and Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, President of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation to celebrate the one year anniversary of the RTS Transit Center.

“When the RTS Transit Center opened, it signaled a transformation of public transportation in Rochester. One year and nearly 11 million customers later, we are seeing what that transformation means for our customers, for RTS and the entire community,” said Bill Carpenter, CEO of RTS. “The RTS Transit Center is helping us connect our customers to jobs, education, healthcare, shopping and recreation. It’s strengthening our connection to customers by facilitating real-time engagement and feedback, and it’s strengthening our connection to the community through tours, events, art displays and information sessions. I thank the entire RTS team for their hard work, and our customers, partners and the entire community for their support.”

RTS Transit Center Anniversary"After just one year of operation, we can already see the positive impact that the RTS Transit Center has made in our community," said County Executive Maggie Brooks. "The Transit Center has addressed a long-time need, making it easier than ever for residents and visitors to travel across the County in a safe and comfortable manner, especially during the cold winter months. The RTS Transit Center will continue to play an important role in the success of Downtown and the entire County for years to come."

“The Downtown Transit Center is a safe, reliable and convenient place for people to connect to jobs, school, healthcare, recreation and more,” said Norman Jones, City Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Services. “Together with the City’s conversion of one-way streets into two-way streets, the filling in of the eastern portion of the Inner Loop and numerous other developments, the RTS Transit Center is a wonderful part of Downtown’s revitalization. Maintaining a world class, modern public transportation system is key to creating a high quality of life, attracting and retaining workers and investment to our city.”

The RTS Transit Center opened on November 28, 2014, on budget and ahead of schedule, and has changed the public transit experience in Rochester.
